The dynamic 48-year-old Swede fits the bill as a media-savvy technology fanatic, but his emergence as a leading candidate for the U.S. company will still come as a surprise to many on Wall Street. Vestberg, a former elite-level handball player, worked his way through the ranks at the world's largest mobile telecom equipment maker, with stints in China, Brazil, Mexico and the United States en route to becoming chief financial officer before taking the top job in 2010. But he has struggled to convince investors that Ericsson can maintain its lead in mobile networks in the face of stiff competition from rivals such as China's Huawei. Since Vestberg took the helm, the company's shares have underperformed the sector. Though the share price has risen 19 percent, in line with Microsoft (MSFT), that compares with a leap of nearly 60 percent for the Stoxx Europe 600 Technology Index over the same period and a 41 percent rise for Sweden's blue-chip index. Both Microsoft and Ericsson declined to comment on Bloomberg's report, though a source close to the U.S. company has said that no CEO appointment is likely until the last week of January at the earliest. Furthermore, Microsoft might prefer a candidate with more experience in consumer products as it tries to take the fight to market leaders Apple (AAPL) and Samsung in handsets and tablets after its purchase of Nokia's mobile phone business. Vestberg was in charge of Ericsson's exit from its handset joint venture with Sony two years ago, ending the company's association with consumer products. "I don't think it's very likely that they will choose Vestberg," said Bengt Nordstrom, head of Swedish telecoms consultancy Northstream. "It's more logical that they will find a U.S. leader, from their network of owners, board members and experienced CEOs with a software, enterprise and media background. There's enough with talent and experience in the U.S. market." Limited Options Since Microsoft's Ballmer announced his retirement plans last August, analysts have discussed potential candidates ranging from company insiders Satya Nadella and Tony Bates to several outsiders. But speculation refocused on internal choices this month after the leading external candidate, Ford Motor (F) CEO Alan Mulally, took himself off the list. Sources familiar with the company have told Reuters that, with Mulally out of the running, the list of candidates able to run a globe-spanning software corporation struggling to expand into the mobile software and devices markets is thin. Analysts say that Microsoft may have to look at "dark horse" candidates, but noted that some widely touted executives in the technology sector, including Pivotal Inc. CEO Paul Maritz, have already declined to take the job.

Stupidity is contagious. It gets us all from time to time. Even respectable companies can catch it. As I do every week, let's take a look at five dumb financial events this week that may make your head spin.

1. Your Best isn't good enough
Best Buy (NYSE: BBY  ) shares have more than doubled this year, and Tuesday's quarterly report would've been a great opportunity to show off why the stock deserves the helium.

Well, it wasn't pretty.

Revenue fell 10%. Adjusted earnings plunged 58%. Same-store sales were negative, and that's even with the benefit of padding as growing online sales are being divided into fewer brick-and-mortar superstores.

CEO Hubert Joly has done an admirable job of cutting costs and getting investors to buy into his turnaround strategy, but isn't it ironic that Best Buy flies in a new helmsman from France, and he proceeds to unload Best Buy's European operations?

Commercial Banking

NG Benelux��non-life products, mainly in the Netherlands, include coverage for both individual and commercial/group clients for fire, motor, disability, transport and third party liability. Nationale-Nederlanden has also a central product manufacturing service for property and casualty insurance, which has developed products for ING Bank in Belgium and ING Bank in the Netherlands. In June 2011, IAP completed the sale of its 50% interest in Pacific-Antai Life Insurance Company Limited (PALIC).

The business units of IAP offer select types of life insurance, wealth management, and retail products and services. These include annuities, endowment, disability/morbidity insurance, unit linked/universal life, whole e, participating life, group life, accident and health, term life and employee benefits. In Hong Kong non-life insurance products (including medical, motor, fire, marine, personal accident and general liability) are also offered.

Insurance Latin America

ING completed the sale of its pensions, life insurance and investment management operations on December 29, 2011. These operations were in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.

ING Investment Management

ING IM is an investment manager of ING Group with activities in Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. In October 2011, ING IM sold ING IM Australia. ING IM provides a range of actively-managed strategies, investment vehicles and advisory services in all major asset classes and investment styles.     Shares of almost all 3D printing companies have appreciated considerably this year. Even though analysts are expecting 3D printing to be worth more than $5 billion by 2018, I don't think investing in 3D printing companies, mainly 3D Systems (DDD), is a good idea. Investors have bid up 3D Systems in the hope that its technology will revolutionize the industrial manufacturing process and it will also have a massive presence in the consumer segment. However, I don't think that 3D Systems will be able to fulfill these expectations any time soon, and it may take many years to justify its valuation. Therefore, in my view, investors who want to see good returns in the long run should invest their money in Organovo (ONVO) rather than 3D Systems. Let's take a look why.

Forget $1 Million. To Feel Wealthy, You Need $5 Million in Assets

High-net-worth and affluent investors define wealth as being able to live life with no financial constraints, and feel $5 million is the minimum needed to be considered wealthy, according to the recent UBS Investor Watch, a quarterly survey.

The survey of 4,450 investors found that 69% of those with more than $1 million in investable assets did not consider themselves wealthy.

Half of respondents defined wealth as having no financial constraints, while only 10% said it meant never having to work again and 9% said it was being able to afford a luxurious lifestyle.

While the ability to afford healthcare and long-term care was the top personal concern for 27% of investors, 20% said their children’s and grandchildren’s financial situations were most important, 14% listed the ability to afford retirement and 14% the potential to outlive their assets.

The survey found that 82% of respondents most enjoyed financially helping their grandchildren, 76% their adult children and 59% their parents. Two-thirds of those with adult children ages 18 to 39 currently supported them financially.

Twenty-three percent of investors continued to hold high levels of cash, and used these holdings as a way to reduce their risk level.

“Investors are using significant cash holdings as a type of ‘security blanket’ to give themselves peace of mind, but also to allow them to feel comfortable getting out there and participating in the market again,” Emily Pachuta, head of investor insights at UBS Wealth Management Americas, said in a statement.

“This has translated to a greater confidence—and faith—in the economy over the long term despite investors’ expectations of continued market volatility in the near term.”

Eighty-five percent of respondents said they felt more confident when their financial plan was dedicated to long-term healthcare expenses and to providing financial support across multiple generations. Confidence dropped to 57% with a more traditional financial plan.

Investor Watch found that 80% of investors thought about their assets as different buckets, with varying risk/return profiles, based on their expected use, such as savings, necessary purchases and recreational spending. 

Respondents viewed the Fed’s ending stimulus as positive for the long term, albeit with a short-term negative effect. Fifty-nine percent said they were not changing their investment strategy as a result of the Fed’s announcement.

DETROIT ��The recall of 1.8 million pounds of ground beef possibly tainted with E. coli O157:H7 and shipped from Detroit has become a national concern, with the focus expanding toward retailers and what may be in consumers' freezers.

So far, 11 people in four states ��Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri and Ohio ��have been sickened in connection with the Class 1 recall, a classification denoting a high risk, with the "reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death," according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The initial probe began with consumers who reported being sickened after eating at restaurants between April 22 to May 2.

Investigators now worry that the same beef from Detroit-based Wolverine Packing Co. might have been sent to grocers and other retail outlets, a spokesman for USDA's inspection service said Tuesday.

She will help develop the coverage at Yahoo News, giving the Web giant some welcome street cred in reporting circles. Couric won't be leaving TV. She plans to continue hosing her syndicated daytime take show -- Katie -- that runs through ABC News. Yahoo! has struggled with online advertising growth lately, and Couric's presence should help increase what it can milk out of advertisers. The Nook -- Loser Barnes & Noble (BKS) posted disappointing quarterly results, but the real culprit here was a sharp drop in sales for the struggling bookseller's Nook e-reader and tablet lines. Shares of Barnes & Noble slipped after reporting a 32 percent plunge in Nook sales. The slide over the past year consists of a 41 percent decline in device and accessories and an even more problematic 21 percent drop in digital content.     After the bell on Monday, Casey’s General Stores (CASY) announced its fiscal Q1 earnings, posting a strong increase in profits and overall revenues compared to the same time period last year.

    The Ankeny, IA-based convenience store company announced quarterly revenues of $2.11 billion, which were up from $1.87 billion in last year’s same quarter. Profits for the company came in at $55.71 million, or $1.43 per share, compared to $39.03 million, or $1.01 per share, in last year’s Q1.

    Both of these figures beat analysts’ estimates, which were EPS of $1.26 on revenues of $2.1 billion.

    CASY shares were up $1.01, or 1.49%, at market close on Monday. YTD, the stock is up more than 26%.

Twitter's share prices have nearly tripled since the company went public in November. On Thursday Twitter rose nearly five percent, its fifth consecutive day of gains.

To date, the company's share price has risen 182 percent and gained a $39.9 billion market capitalization, overtaking both Target and Time Warner Cable. The recent run up came despite skepticism from most stock analysts as investors put their faith in the company's future.

Military forces will protect both voters and candidates as the nation goes ahead with an election which the opposition has refused to support. While on vacation with his family, US President Barack Obama signed a bipartisan budget deal which will prevent another government shutdown for at least the next two years. The deal is expected to ease the ��equester��budget cuts while still trimming government spending. The President also approved the annual defense policy bill, allowing the Pentagon a $526.8 billion budget in 2014. On Friday, a car bomb exploded outside an upmarket hotel in central Beruit and killed Mohamad Chata, the nation's former finance minister among others. Preliminary reports show at least five people have been killed and 15 were critically injured. No groups have claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

    At Rolls-Royce (RYCEY), new CEO John Rishton had a busy and fruitful start to his tenure. Most importantly, Rishton began to focus Rolls on areas where the company stood to improve, including cash generation, cost structure and customer service. He also successfully extracted the company from its legacy narrow body civil engine joint-venture with Pratt & Whitney (IAE) for an attractive price, positioned Rolls as exclusive supplier for the Airbus A350-1000, further secured the company�� strong position on the A350 program, and closed the tricky Tognum acquisition which will begin to bear fruit in 2012. While Rolls had not released its 2011 results as of the writing of this letter, both we and the markets expect the company to report mid-to-high single digits revenue growth and low-to-mid-teens earnings growth in the year past.
