Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is out with Warren Buffett latest letter to shareholders. It only been a couple hours since I read it. So I haven had much time to digest the contents a full article on Berkshire intrinsic value will follow but I did manage to write down some notes.
Here they are:
路 From 1965 through 2011: Berkshire Hathaway book value per share grew 19.8% a year. This is basically Warren Buffett long-term record. Of course, he ran an investment partnership before this where he averaged 30% a year over about 10 years. If you factor this part of Warren Buffett career in, his returns are about 22% a year. Regardless, we are talking 20% to 22% a year compounded over a 56-year investment career. It is the length of the career that makes this so impressive. See my article on Walter Schloss 47-year investment career for a comparison. Between Warren Buffett, Walter Schloss, and Ben Graham you have something like 130 years of investing in common stocks and yet you have very little overlap between them owning the same stocks at the same times. The careers of these 3 men are a treasure trove of truly long-term investing results. The concept of luck is pretty unimportant when wee talking about 3 obviously intellectually connected men each picking hundreds of stocks over 3 to 5 decades. Learn everything you can about these men. What they really owned. And when they owned it. Their system works.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By James E. Brumley]
What do you get when you cross a Coffee Holding Co., Inc. (NASDAQ:JVA) with a Medical Marijuana Inc. (OTCMKTS:MJNA) and a Kraft Foods Group Inc. (NASDAQ:KRFT)? No, it's not a setup for a punch line - there's a legitimate answer. And that answer is, Latteno Food Corp. (OTCMKTS:LATF).
- [By James E. Brumley]
A week and a half ago when I suggested Latteno Food Corp. (OTCMKTS:LATF) was an effective way of getting into the medical marijuana craze for anyone who missed the big runups (the first or the second time) from names like Medical Marijuana Inc. (OTCMKTS:MJNA) or Hemp, Inc. (OTCMKTS:HEMP), not many people agreed with my assessment. That's the nice way of saying I received some "colorful counter-opinions" to my bullishness on LATF. Indeed, some readers were downright enraged I would dare compare the company to stocks like MJNA or HEMP, citing reasons ranging from the possibility that it's a complete scam to the possibility that the capital structure as amazingly unfair to current shareholders.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Stephen Simpson, CFA]
I wrote on bearings and velocity control products company Kaydon (KDN) in early March of this year, and I didn't see a lot of value at the time. As the year went on, that call looked worse and worse, as the stock climbed about 18% - well above the S&P 500, and well above industry peers/competitors like Timken (TKR) and SKF (SKFRY.PK). To top it all off, Kaydon announced this morning (September 5) that it had received and accepted a buyout offer from SKF valuing the company at $35.50 - some 45% higher than the price when I thought it looked only about 10% undervalued. So what did I get wrong here, and what can investors do to avoid a similar mistake?

- [By Dan Caplinger]
The biggest worry that some investors have about Pengrowth is that its dividend is large compared to its earnings. Similar issues forced Penn West Petroleum (NYSE: PWE ) , also a former Canroy, to cut its dividend a couple months ago. Although extraordinary measures have helped Pengrowth and Enerplus (NYSE: ERF ) sustain payouts at levels that were last reduced in the middle of 2012, both companies could eventually see further pressure on their payouts in future.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Peter Graham]
The Q4 2014 earnings report for La-Z-Boy Incorporated (NYSE: LZB), a potential peer of other furniture stocks like Hooker Furniture Corporation (NASDAQ: HOFT) and Flexsteel Industries, Inc (NASDAQ: FLXS), is due out after the market closes on Tuesday. Aside from the La-Z-Boy Incorporated earnings report, it should be said that Hooker Furniture Corporation reported Q1 2015 on June 5th (they reported a double-digit income rise on higher sales in first quarter) and Flexsteel Industries, Inc reported Q3 2014 earnings on April 16th (they record net sales and net income). However and the last time around, investors did not like it when La-Z-Boy Incorporated reported quarterly profit of 32 cents a share that missed forecasts calling for a profit of 35 cents a share and they really did not like revenuemissing expectations by 7.7%. The company is also doing some restructuring.
- [By Garrett Cook]
